Your Money, My Money

My boy is given RM40 a month as his monthly allowance though he brings lunch box to school.  Since starting of this year, I have drawn out a simple ledger sheet for him to record his in and out money transactions and the savings goes into his piggy bank, it's a pouch actually but he likes to refer to it as such.  He gets to buy something that he wants, of course with my approval.  So far, he has spent on a skipping rope and some books from his savings.  I must say that he is reasonably careful with his money. (Read: HIS MONEY)

Whilst on our way home after fetching him from school this evening, we had this conversation in the car:

Ian:  Mommy, the uncle came today and gave us this form.  Remember, the bling bling colour pen and colouring book that we bought last year but this one is different.  It's RM20 ONLY. (Read: ONLY)

Mommy: Ok but remember, the colour pen didn't last long.  Are you sure you want to buy it?

Ian: Hmmm.. yes..

Mommy: Ok then. You have until tomorrow morning to think if you should have it.  The money will be from your piggy bank if you really want to buy it.

Ian: Huh? But it's expensive (Read: EXPENSIVE now, no more RM20 only)..

Upon reaching home....

Ian: Mommy, I think I don't want to buy already.  It's not so good quality and won't last long.

Mommy: ..............

Hahaha...true what, if he use your money, it will not be expensive. If he use his, it will be 50% of his allowance. That's expensive. He knows his Math!
