03.01.11 ~ First Day Of School

When my boy developed high fever on the night of New Year's eve, I was worried that he would not be able to make it on the first day of school but fortunately his fever subsided the night after and he had a day to recuperate before going back to school today.

I thought I was well prepared for school this afternoon: cook lunch (checked), iron uniform (checked), prepare lunch box (checked), school bag (checked), tumbler (checked), school shoes (checked).. What have I left out?.. Looks like very well prepared hor?  Not until my boy put on his white shirt uniform and he screamed, mie.. no name label wo.. Being out of action (high fever, bugs I picked up from the boy) the last weekend, things I wanted to to, I forgot to do..  I then told him it's ok to wear uniform without name label today but he insisted and that left me no choice but to dig out the old uniform with name label on it.  He looked funny in his old uniform as it's so tight and that amazed me as to how much he's grown during the last school holidays.

The school's assembly hall was already packed with pupils and parents when we arrived.  My boy is in Std 2M this year and everyone of the afternoon session gathered in the assembly hall until the morning classes were fully dissolved.  We parents followed them up to 1st floor where their classrooms were and I could see some of them struggled lifting, dragging, pushing their trolley school bags up the staircase, now with the bags literally empty, hard to imagine how they they cope when the bags are loaded with books later on.  I regretted not bringing my camera along or I could have uploaded some photos to share here.

Both classes of 2K and 2M have 50 pupils with only19 boys in each class.  I know some of the SJKCs have larger classes but he did enjoy studying in a class of 39 in standard one last year.   As I had told my boy the night before, try to sit in the middle row though the chances of swapping to back row is high due to his height.  He is now seated in the middle row with his previous classmates from std 1, a girl on his left and a boy on his right.  I stayed there till slightly over 2pm.  It rained cats and dogs and thus worsens the traffic.  The usual 5 minutes drive home took me 30 minutes today.

The same class teachers are assigned to teach the same batch of pupils for two years ie. std 1 and std 2.  The class teachers who taught them in std 1 would be their class teachers again this year but due to the streaming exercise, my boy got a new teacher, Teacher Chong.  Some mommies told me both class teachers of Class K and M are good teachers as the school would usually assign the best teachers to elite classes.  Their classes are categorised by colours.  Still, I don't quite like the streaming thingy, but when you can't beat them, join them lo...  If you have been following my blog, you would know I had an almost non-stop feasting month in December last year, don't worry about high calorie for me ok, as all will be burned out as soon as school begins.  *roll eyeballs*

Glad your boy recovered from his fever in time to go to school. All the best to him in the year ahead - but knowing him, I bet he's going to do very well.

LOL, it must have been a hectic day for you! Well, guess your boy Ian is doing well in her new class! I love the concept of the same teaching coaching the same class, at least the kids would feel more 'homely', lol!;D

keep well and have a nice day!
